This was the year of three's. Reed and I both turned 30 and we had our 3rd anniversary. We decided we since we were already in France that we should take advantage of our proximity to some of the world's most beautiful places. We used our birthday money (thanks mom!) and rented a car for the weekend. We started in Albertville, France and drove over the border into Italy. From there we went through Turin, and south to the coast. We stopped in a small coastal town to spend the night, then got up early and headed back into France. Our first stop was Monaco. Since we couldn't really afford to do anything there we just got out and took a few pics and drove around. After that we headed to Nice. We ate lunch in Nice, walked on the beach, and enjoyed the local markets selling soaps, flowers, and more along the small street.
Afterwards we drove to St. Paul de Vence, a small medieval city full of cute shops, ivy covered walls, and old churches. After watching the sunset from on top of the hill we then drove to Marseille. We stayed the night in a cute little hotel right off the water (yay, for traveling on off-season). The next morning we got up, walked around the pier, shopped at the open-air market, and then stopped by Starbucks. Pumpkin Spice Latte, um yes!
After Marseille we then headed to Avignon. We stopped and had lunch in the plaza, visited the church and say the famous bridge. Afterwards we got back in the car and continued the loop home until Grenoble where we ate for dinner. It was a whirlwind trip, but probably one of our favorite weekends in France so far!
